Music of Africa started in late September, 2023. Since then, I've shared a bunch of great music. Here are the highlights. For the record, this is not necessarily music that was released in 2023.
BOTSWANA
Culture Spears - "Bare Ngwana Ga Se Waaka"
I could have picked a number of songs from Culture Spears, but this one edged out the others just a bit.
Eskimos - "Gwawa"
There are Eskimos in Africa. This hard-hitting song from days gone by is the proof.
Vee Mampeezy - "Your Time"
Vee goes to school. A wildly catchy song and a dancing frenzy ensue.
Matsieng - "Mmalebopo"
Intensely catchy, in a lilting kind of way and with an almost tropical feel.
Slizer Mocha O Chele - "Mma Bana"
Dancers of all ages, a purple hippo in a sumo outfit, and a relentessly earwormy song.
MALAWI
Apa Boys - "Vuma"
A two-man band cover a song by Zimbabwe's Oliver Mtukudzi.
SOUTH AFRICA
Yvonne Chaka Chaka - "Umqombothi"
In praise of home-brewed beer.
ZIMBABWE
Oliver Mtukudzi - "Cheka Ukama"
Oliver Mtukudzi - "Pfimbika"
I listened to a lot of Oliver "Tuku" Mtukudzi this year. I couldn't narrow it down to one song so here they are.
