Picks of the Week - Kenyan & Malawian Gospel
It's two picks for the price of one this time around, with gospel music from Kenya and Malawi.
I remarked a while back that I tend to equate gospel music with the rather stodgy music I often heard growing up. But one should probably not tar all gospel music with the same brush. Exhibits A and B are our picks for the week.
From Kenya, a song by Frederick Muithi, featuring Amos Francis. Which appears on the latter's YouTube channel, where he is described simply as a "gospel artist." As is so often the case, I couldn't find much more info about any of today's artists. At least not without signing up for more social media accounts, which is not on the agenda right now.
The other artist - Chifundo Milton - is described as "a Malawian gospel artist based in South Africa bring his wonderful praise song called 'Thamangila Kwa Yesu.'" Which is not much more to go on, but in both cases the music makes up for the lack of detailed background info. It's not stodgy at all.
Tasty stuff — thanks!
