Pick of the Week - Tika Poo (Botswana)
Tika Poo (Othusitse Kehathilwe) and some guest stars and others, take to the deserts of Botswana to make a video.
Tika Poo (Othusitse Kehathilwe) said in an interview a while back that he makes "house kwasa music." I'm still struggling with the distinction between the likes of the following genres, which seem to be especially popular in Botswana and neighboring South Africa. I remain confused for now.
kwaito
kwaito kwasa/kwaito kwassa
kwasa/kwassa
kwasa kwasa/wassa kwassa
But let's move on to Tika Poo's song and video. The latter features a number of prominent guest stars, several of whom we've featured here.
There's Zolasko, who also produced the song, and a few of the Mahempe crew are on hand. I'm guessing there are some other well-known Botswanan musicians that I can't identify. The video, like so many from this part of Africa, is produced by Jack Bohloko. We spotlighted his work here a while back.
It's classic Botswana all the way. Circling the wagons (cars) in the desert and rolling the camera as a wild dance party breaks out. Enjoy!
