I'm not sure how I managed to overlook Ndingo Johwa all this time, but I did.
The 73-year-old Botswanan musician has released eight studio albums. His web site describes his music as a type of Ikalanga folk music he calls "Ikajazz."
I'll be listening to a lot more, but to my ear, so far, there are bits that sound a little like Oliver Mtukudzi, of Zimbabwe, and others reminiscent of Malathini and the Mahotella Queens, from South Africa.
