Pick of the Week - Gift Kasinkha (Malawi)
We're back to Malawi for a wildly upbeat song from Gift Kasinkha.
When I started this project, I knew that Malawi was a country in Africa and that was about the extent of it. Looking back at the fifty-plus Pick of the Week features we've done, I see that about one in five featured Malawian musicians. If you need more convincing that the music of Malawi is worth your time, check out our Malawi playlist.
Today we feature Gift Kasinkha, with a great song and a video that features non-stop dancing and a few impressive moves by someone who's either a contortionist or a master yogi. Here's Kasinkha's bio, snipped from the Music of Malawi web site
Gift Kasinkha (born April 15th, 1993), known for his Local Fusion is a Malawian singer and songwriter. He started doing music in the year 2010 and rose to fame after releasing his Song 'Madolo' where he emphasizes the disturbing but crazy nature of drunkards after consuming a locally brewed beer called Madolo in his home area. He has released several amazing songs like Batchala, Madolo, Ndakalambilanji, Akazi A amalume, Walebo walebo, Asing'anga, Alibe chabwino, Mwana opeza, Madalo and Chibuku mgolo and the list goes on and on. To those who have witnessed his performances, they are also amused by his dancing Techniques. He has worked with several prominent producers in the country including the legendary Lawrence Mbenjere under mbenjele studios.Others he has been working with are Viwe Chibwana under the C.L touch studios, D pro media, MS records, and Madolo studios.
