Pick of the Week - Eddy Kenzo (Uganda)
Kicking off a week devoted to the music of Eddy Kenzo, from Uganda.
This is the third time around for Eddy Kenzo, whose songs 'Mariarosa' and 'Zigido' were featured in past Pick of the Week features.
I made a remark recently to the effect that Kenzo has catchiness down to a science. I've been listening to a lot of his music lately and ran across more great songs that support this theory. With that in mind, we'll be featuring Kenzo and his catchy music all week long. Stay tuned.
Kenzo is from Uganda, a country we haven't explored much thus far. The exception being a review of a Geoffrey Oryema album. The two musicians are from different generations - Kenzo was a year old when Oryema's first album was released in 1990. But they're both great in their own very distinctive ways.
We start the week with 'Balippila Boda,' a great song that combines huge sound and immense choruses with Kenzo's smooth vocals. And there's a spectacular video that rivals Cecil B. DeMille for over the top production values. Turn up the volume, click play, and enjoy.
This is great. And I can watch those dancers do that jumping Adumo move all day. I think it’s the coolest thing.
