Pick of the Week - Drum Queen (Botswana)

A great song from Drum Queen, aka Gonewa Mojumi (not to be confused with drummer Roger Taylor).

One of the surprises about writing about African music, is how much great music comes from Botswana, a country that tends to be overshadowed by others on the continent.

It's a tricky business, trying to find background on Botswana's Drum Queen. First, filter out all the results for Roger Taylor, the drummer for Queen. And those for Muthoni Drummer Queen, from Kenya. I couldn't find much else about Drum Queen, but she resides on Facebook here.

As always, the music speaks for itself. And does a fine job of it. "Girlie" is an upbeat drum-driven (fittingly) track that's good for a listen...or three or four...or more. Carry on.
