Pick of the Week - Driemo/Chile One (Malawi/Zambia)
A mashup by artists from two neighboring countries in southern Africa.
(When I get it wrong, I go all the way. Rather than correct this post and make like it never happened, I’m adding this note.
One of the songs I mentioned here is “Popo,” which is indeed a hit by Driemo, from Malawi. The mashup video below is actually four snippets of song performed by the duo in the video and I don’t think the guy on the left is Chile One, after all.
None of which changes the fact that this mashup is insistently catchy and one of my favorite bits of music I’ve run across since starting this site.)
Dumelang. I think I've got it straight. Zambia and Malawi share a stretch of border in southern Africa. Driemo (Shafie S. Phiri), from Malawi, had a hit with an insistently catchy song called "Popo."
The version embedded below is by Chile One, from Zambia, and a female singer I haven't been able to identify. I think it improves on the original, which is no small feat. See what you think.
