This week's pick is from a group of musicians from Sudan, DRC, Ghana and Botswana, who reside in Australia. Or did so in 2015, when their four-song EP was released on Bandcamp. It's not clear if they're still active (or if I've got all the facts straight), but their web site is active and here's what it has to say:
Between untold stories of the Kalahari desert and hypnotic melodies of the kalimba, Afrovival submerges us into melodic tunes that echoe far reaching villages and streets in Africa. Combined with an original and contemporary play on voice, story, dance and score, the Afrovival experience entices audiences feet to move to an infectious beat that uplifts and connects.
Experience the heart and soul of Bostwana with the 4 string oil can guitar, Highlife music from Ghana with kora, ethereal Kalimba from Tanzania, Mutwash inspired Congolese guitar for rotating your waist & cruisy dance moves for all to join in.
"Kanyi Kwedu" is a great song. Give it a spin.
