From the Archive: Bokete7 YouTube Channel
A YouTube channel that provides "An intimate visual experience of daily living in Botswana." And lots of guitar music.
As our archive keeps growing, some of our older pieces might be getting lost in the shuffle. Every now and then we'll dig in, dust one off a bit, and revisit it. Here's one now.
Today's recommendation is a little different. It features a YouTube channel, rather than a single artist. The channel is called Bokete7. According to some sources, "bokete" is Setswana for "heavy," but don't hold me to this. I can barely manage with English.
The site provides "An intimate visual experience of daily living in Botswana." But the draw for me are the music videos, many from Botswana and others from elsewhere in Africa. Especially the ones that feature Botswana's unique four-string guitarists.
The site had something of a viral success years ago with a video featuring the late Ronnie Moipolai, who appears in numerous videos at this channel. In the one embedded here, he and his brother manage the never-before-seen feat (don't hold me to this either) of playing one guitar at the same time.
