Bonus Picks of the Week 1 - Rocking Stars (1)(Botswana)
Catching up on a backlog of Picks of the Week.
We do a Pick of the Week every Saturday, highlighting a song that caught my attention at some point. Take a look at all of the picks here. Because I have a backlog of picks, I thought I'd take this week to catch up, posting new ones on Sunday, Wednesday and Saturday. Enjoy!
This time out, the song is "Crush Yame," by Rocking Stars. It's understated and a little bit hypnotic and supposedly "a mixture of amapiano and kwasa" styles. I've already listened to it numerous times since running across it this week and I'm sure that won't be the last of it.
As noted in the article in the local press, "Rocking Stars is a group made up of Jimmy Mphoyakgosi and Oarabile Thono, who are former dancers for Mosakaso queen, Charma Gal." Charma Gal was once (or still is?) a member of Culture Spears, another Botswanan group.
