Bandcamp Labels - African Classics/Ostinato Records

Our third look at labels who sell African music on Bandcamp.

I previously mentioned several labels that sell music on Bandcamp, either specializing in African music or offering it along with their other wares. Look here and here. Here's are a few more such labels.

African Classics

African Classics is a line of reissues that's primarily focused on South African music, including music from Raymond Nyathi, Sipho Mabuse, and Leonard Dembo.

That's no surprise since the South African Gallo Music Africa, as they put it, "is the longest running independent recording label and music publisher in Africa, managing the largest catalogue of African master recordings in the world and providing one-stop music services to an impressive roster of artists and collaborators."

Ostinato Records

Ostinato Records has a relatively modest list of Bandcamp releases from South Africa, Sudan, Somali and more. But what's there is intriguing and one of their releases was nominated for a Grammy. Sweet As Broken Dates: Lost Somali Tapes from the Horn of Africa was nominated for Best Historical Album at the 2018 Grammy Awards.
